Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu emphasized the importance of reviving the traditional Indian joint family system, citing it as a significant strength of the country. He highlighted the role of grandparents and other family members in shaping children’s values and providing emotional support. The Chief Minister’s remarks came during his participation in the Pulse Polio Immunisation Programme, where he interacted with families and stressed the need for timely government-recommended vaccinations for children’s well-being.
Officials from the Health and Family Welfare Department informed Chandrababu Naidu about the State’s goal to administer polio drops to around 4.92 million children under the age of five in a three-day campaign. During his engagements with families, the Chief Minister discussed the challenges faced in raising children, especially in households where both parents work. He emphasized the shared responsibility of childcare, urging fathers and other family members to actively participate in parenting and not leave the burden solely on mothers.
Chandrababu Naidu reiterated the government’s commitment to promoting larger families and creating awareness about the benefits of having two or more children. He emphasized the need for a family-friendly social environment and highlighted the changing societal attitudes towards child-rearing. Minister of Backward Classes Welfare, S. Savitha, also underscored the government’s dedication to the Pulse Polio programme, aiming to establish a polio-free society in the state. She urged parents to ensure that children under five receive the necessary polio drops for a healthy future.
