Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has instructed officials to incorporate 11 additional irrigation projects into the existing list of 25 high-priority projects. This directive aims to ensure timely completion of these projects by following the Irrigation Calendar unveiled during a recent Collectors’ Conference.
During a review meeting at the Secretariat, the Chief Minister emphasized the importance of including the new projects in the priority list. He urged officials to diligently execute these works without any negligence. Additionally, he directed the Finance Department to secure sufficient funding for land acquisition and civil works to support the projects.
Officials updated the Chief Minister on the progress of various ongoing projects, including the Polavaram Project. They reported significant milestones achieved, such as 88% completion of civil works, 93% completion of land acquisition, and progress on the construction of twin tunnels for the Polavaram Right Canal.
Under the Handri-Neeva Phase-1 project, 92% of canal widening has been finished, while Phase-2’s Kuppam-Punganur canals have seen 85% completion of lining work. Notably, officials highlighted the successful diversion of 52 billion cubic feet of water from the Malyala Lift Scheme to the Rayalaseema region, benefiting 432 tanks.
The Chief Minister stressed the timely completion of the East Coast Reservoir Flood Flow Canal Dam Gap-1 and Gap-2 works. He emphasized the need to supply water through the Purushothapatnam Lift Scheme’s left canal starting July. Furthermore, he outlined plans to link Polavaram waters to other regions and proposed a study on the Meghadrigedda-Champavathi link’s cost.
