The Andhra Pradesh government has assisted a woman, Dudekula Shehnaz, from Vayalapadu village in Annmayya district, who was trapped in Oman by her employer. Shehnaz, who traveled to Muscat last November for work, sought to return home but was confined and asked to pay Rs 2 lakh by the agent’s office. With the intervention of the state government and Andhra Pradesh Non-Resident Telugu Society (APNRTS), she is set to come back on May 7.
Her family raised concerns when her phone was confiscated, and her husband, Abubaker, sought help from APNRTS. The authorities swiftly acted, involving the Indian embassy in Muscat to resolve the situation. The agent agreed to cover the expenses and arrange for Shehnaz’s return to Andhra Pradesh, ensuring her safety.
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu emphasized the government’s dedication to safeguarding migrant workers like Shehnaz. He praised the prompt action taken by APNRTS in addressing the issue. Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan’s office also played a crucial role in responding to Shehnaz’s distress call, coordinating efforts with the Ministry of External Affairs and the diplomatic mission to bring her back home.
