The Andhra Pradesh government has declared financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh for each family of the individuals who lost their lives in the bus fire incident in Markapuram district. Additionally, Rs 2 lakh will be provided to each of the injured persons. This decision was made during a state Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu.
The Cabinet expressed sorrow over the tragic event and extended sympathies to the families of the deceased. The unfortunate incident, which occurred in Markapuram district, resulted in the death of fourteen individuals, with 28 others sustaining injuries when a private travels bus collided with a tipper truck and caught fire.
More than 40 passengers were onboard the bus operated by Harikrishna Travels, en route from Jagtiyal in Telangana to Kanigiri in Nellore district. The injured individuals were taken to hospitals in Ongole and Markapuram, with three reported to be in critical condition.
The victims and injured include women and children, with some passengers managing to escape the bus as soon as the fire erupted. Authorities have initiated rescue and relief efforts, with Markapuram MLA K. Narayana Reddy overseeing the operations at the accident site.
