A police officer in Andhra Pradesh’s Palnadu district, Circle Inspector T. Venkataramana, has been suspended for his alleged role in an honor killing case. The suspension came after accusations that he accepted money from the parents of a 22-year-old woman, Chowdeswari, and returned her to them despite her love marriage. Tragically, this action is believed to have led to her subsequent killing by her father in Macherla town.
Chowdeswari, a resident of Yadava Bazar in Macherla town, was reportedly strangled to death by her father on March 18, 2026. Initially thought to be a suicide, the post-mortem report released on April 4 revealed otherwise. She had fallen in love with Nagaraju from Jammalamadaka in the same district, against her family’s wishes who had arranged her marriage with someone else.
The woman’s father, Chandra Sreenu, filed a missing complaint with the Macherla police after she eloped on March 4 to marry Nagaraju. Despite her statements to the police during an inquiry that she was of legal age and married willingly, she was sent back to her parents. Tragically, on March 18, her father and another individual allegedly strangled her in her sleep, trying to pass it off as suicide.
After the post-mortem report indicated foul play, Chandra Sreenu was arrested, and an investigation was launched into the tragic incident.
