The Andhra Pradesh government has strategically developed Visakhapatnam into a thriving IT hub through initiatives like IT & GCC and LIFT. By fostering collaboration between industry and academia, providing infrastructure support, and enhancing urban mobility, the state has created an ideal environment for IT companies to expand seamlessly. This approach has reversed the trend of talent migration, establishing Visakhapatnam as a hub for skilled professionals and a preferred destination for global firms to establish and nurture high-quality teams.
Visakhapatnam is swiftly becoming a prominent IT destination in India, driven by a strong local talent pool and a growing ecosystem that is attracting substantial global technology investments. Infosys, for instance, has been allocated 20 acres of land in Vizag to develop a 7,000-seater facility, showcasing confidence in the region’s potential. Over the past two years, Infosys has increased its Visakhapatnam workforce from 250 to nearly 1,900 employees, with plans to add 750 more seats soon. The company is also preparing for a permanent 20-acre campus with a capacity for 7,000 professionals, underscoring its belief in the region’s long-term prospects.
A key aspect of this growth is the integration with the local talent pool. Infosys’ Visakhapatnam campus has hired over 1,000 freshers and 500 lateral recruits from the region, indicating the availability of industry-ready talent and the success of Andhra Pradesh’s focused skilling and education initiatives. Nara Lokesh, Minister for IT, Electronics & Education, emphasized that Visakhapatnam’s evolution into an IT hub reflects the strength of local talent and the supportive ecosystem being cultivated. The vision is to establish a vibrant, talent-centric environment where industry, academia, and government collaborate synergistically to position Andhra Pradesh as a global technology and innovation hub.
