Kolkata Knight Riders’ iconic all-rounder, Andre Russell, shared his initial match-day coaching experience in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, expressing a sense of unfamiliarity in his new role. Russell, now serving as the team’s power coach, admitted feeling unsure about his responsibilities while being on the sidelines.
In a candid conversation with KKR assistant coach Shane Watson, Russell discussed his coaching approach, emphasizing the importance of positional awareness over technical changes. He highlighted his unique role as a power coach, focusing on enhancing players’ power-hitting skills and guiding them to position themselves effectively against bowlers.
Despite the transition to coaching, Russell expressed a strong emotional bond with Kolkata Knight Riders, considering the franchise his second home after being associated with it for more than a decade. Reflecting on his journey, he described his connection with KKR as one of the most significant and emotional aspects of his cricket career.
Shane Watson, who had competitive encounters with Russell during their playing days, praised the former all-rounder’s impact on the game. Acknowledging Russell’s exceptional skills as a fast-bowling all-rounder, Watson commended his dedication and the respect he holds for his former teammate.
