With over 14 lakh Anganwadi centres nationwide, Anganwadi Didis are actively supporting pregnant mothers, lactating mothers, adolescent girls, and children, benefiting nearly 8.9 crore individuals. Union Minister for Women and Child Development Annpurna Devi highlighted the success of ‘Poshan Maah’ and ‘Poshan Pakhwada’ as a widespread movement engaging millions in various activities.
She commended the efforts of Anganwadi workers, helpers, and ASHA Didis in implementing the Prime Minister’s vision at the grassroots level, emphasizing the Ministry’s broad mandate to reach every household and child in the country. Stressing on the importance of nurturing children for a prosperous future, she urged states to exchange best practices, enhance district performance, especially in aspirational districts, and collectively ensure better nutrition for all children.
The minister underscored that the concept of ‘Poshan’ is an ongoing initiative requiring sustained time, care, and community involvement to promote the holistic development of children. In alignment with this initiative, the Ministry of Women and Child Development has launched the 8th edition of ‘Poshan Pakhwada’, initiating a nationwide campaign from April 9 to April 23.
Minister of State Savitri Thakur acknowledged the leadership of PM Narendra Modi in organizing eight Poshan Maahs and seven Poshan Pakhwadas since 2018. Emphasizing the theme of Poshan Pakhwada 2026, focusing on “Maximizing Brain Development in the First Six Years of Life,” she stressed the critical nature of early brain development, particularly during the first 1,000 days. Thakur advocated for a comprehensive approach encompassing nutrition, responsive caregiving, and early learning to ensure the overall development of children.
