Ankita Raina faced defeat in the Mumbai Open WTA 125K Series Qualifiers at the Maharashtra State Lawn Tennis Association (MSLTA). Peangtarn Plipuech emerged victorious over Raina in a challenging match that lasted nearly three hours, with a final score of 6-2, 1-6, 6-4. Meanwhile, other players like Matsuda Misaki, Zuzzana Pawlikowska, and Kristiana Sidorova secured wins to advance to the main draw.

Japan’s Matsuda Misaki achieved a remarkable victory by defeating Argentina’s Nicole Fossa Huergo, the top seed in the qualifiers. Misaki overcame a slow start to claim a 7-5, 6-4 win, earning a spot in the main draw. Poland’s Zuzzana Pawlikowska also fought hard in a lengthy three-set match against Finland’s Anastasia Kulikova, ultimately winning 6-3, 4-6, 7-6 (7-4) to progress.

In another match, Kristiana Sidorova outplayed Yasmine Kabbaj, the second seed in the qualifiers, with a convincing 6-4, 6-2 victory. The upcoming main draw action on February 2 will feature Indian players challenging strong international opponents. Notably, Sahaja Yamalapalli will compete against Japan’s Eri Shimizu, while other Indian talents like Shrivalli Bhamidipaty and Vaidehee Chaudhari are set to face tough competition.

Vaidehee Chaudhari, who received a wild card entry into the main draw, has been in excellent form recently, winning titles and showcasing strong performances. Her inclusion follows Sahaja Yamalapalli’s direct entry into the main draw, with Yamalapalli having displayed impressive form in recent tournaments. The Mumbai Open promises exciting matchups as Indian players gear up to compete against top talents from around the world.
