A recent anti-corruption drive in the Naubatpur block of Patna resulted in the arrest of a computer operator, Santosh Kumar, caught accepting a bribe of Rs 37,100. The operation, spearheaded by Deputy Superintendent of Police Sujit Sagar from the Vigilance Investigation Bureau, followed a complaint by Sushila Devi. She accused Kumar of soliciting money for processing official tasks.
Officials confirmed the allegations after a preliminary inquiry and set up a trap team supervised by Deputy Superintendent Sujit Sagar. During a planned operation, Sushila Devi handed the bribe to Kumar, leading to his immediate arrest by plainclothes vigilance officers. The entire bribe amount was recovered from Kumar, who is now in custody facing legal action under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
In a separate incident on the same day, the Vigilance Investigation Bureau conducted a similar operation in Saharsa, apprehending a revenue employee, Shyam Prasad Singh, and his middleman, Phulchand Sah, for accepting a bribe of Rs 16,000. The arrest followed a complaint by Mohammad Hayat, alleging illicit demands for issuing a land revenue receipt. Both accused were caught red-handed and are now under investigation.
