India’s steel capacity received a boost with ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India unveiling a modern automotive steel production line at its Gujarat plant. The Pickling Line and Tandem Cold Mill (PLTCM), boasting a 2 million tonnes per annum capacity, was opened by Japan’s Ambassador to India, Keiichi Ono.
This new facility is tailored to manufacture top-notch cold-rolled steel and advanced automotive-grade products for the local market, as stated by the company. It will facilitate the domestic production of Advanced High Strength Steel (AHSS), aiding in reducing import reliance and meeting the escalating demand from India’s automotive industry.
The cutting-edge facility integrates advanced technology, automation, and globally recognized quality systems, serving a broad spectrum of applications, including galvanised, galvannealed, and press-hardened steel utilized in contemporary vehicles. This initiative is part of a continuous Rs 60,000-crore expansion plan at Hazira, focusing on bolstering both its upstream and downstream capabilities.
