Police in Budgam district, Jammu & Kashmir, have apprehended one suspect linked to the abduction, sexual assault, and killing of a minor girl. The arrested individual, identified as Mudasir, was taken into custody within 24 hours of the tragic incident. Authorities are actively pursuing the capture of the remaining suspects involved in the heinous crime.
The harrowing incident unfolded in the Galwanpora area of Budgam district, where a 12-year-old girl was abducted, sexually assaulted, and subsequently murdered. The news of this appalling crime shocked the local community, occurring on the eve of the Eid-ul-Azha festival, a significant Muslim celebration marking the culmination of the Hajj pilgrimage.
Following the recovery of the girl’s body from a nearby field, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) was promptly formed by the police. Preliminary investigations indicate that the case involves both rape and murder. The tragic event has elicited widespread condemnation and sorrow from various prominent figures in the region, including J&K L-G Manoj Sinha, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, and other influential leaders.
Calls for swift justice and the strictest penalties for the perpetrators have resonated across Kashmir, with demands for expedited legal proceedings. Specialized Fast Track Special Courts (FTSCs), including dedicated Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) courts, have been established nationwide to ensure prompt and time-bound trials for cases of sexual violence against minors.
