Arunachal Pradesh has started preparations for the Census of India 2027, joining other northeastern states in this initiative. Chief Minister Pema Khandu and Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein actively participated in the initial phase of the census process. The self-enumeration phase, involving digital mapping and geo-tagging, will run from April 16 to April 30, 2026, allowing households to provide accurate information.
The next phase, from May 1 to May 30, 2026, will involve field operations for houselisting and housing census, where designated enumerators will visit households to collect data. Chief Minister Khandu urged all households to actively engage in the self-enumeration phase and cooperate with enumerators during field visits. Deputy Chief Minister Mein emphasized the importance of accurate information for effective planning and growth.
Deputy Chief Minister Mein also highlighted the significance of Census 2027 as a crucial national exercise supporting development planning and public service delivery. The self-enumeration phase will be followed by field visits by enumerators, aiming to ensure comprehensive and reliable data collection. Mein called on all households to participate actively and provide complete information to support better planning and inclusive growth for the state.
In Mizoram, Governor General Vijay Kumar Singh (Retd) inaugurated the intensive houselisting and housing census operations under Census 2027 in Aizawl. General Singh stressed the importance of thorough enumeration, urging census officials to explain the process clearly to ensure accurate data collection. He expressed confidence in the success of India’s first digital census and called for public cooperation with census officials and enumerators.
