Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu has launched the second edition of the Tawangchu Tides International Kayaking Championship at the Tawangchu River. Over 100 participants from India and abroad are participating in this high-altitude event. Khandu emphasized the state’s natural advantage for kayaking and canoeing due to its mighty rivers.
Referring to a proposal by the Arunachal Kayaking and Canoeing Association (AKCA) to develop five river basins as training hubs, the Chief Minister mentioned that the memorandum is under consideration by the Secretary, Youth Affairs and Sports. The state government, in collaboration with technical experts and the Indian Kayaking and Canoeing Association (IKCA), plans to establish more training centers to promote the sport systematically.
CM Khandu highlighted the recent progress in Arunachal Pradesh’s sports sector, noting the state’s improved national sports performance. He credited this advancement to the support from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and investments by the Central and state governments in youth development, sports policies, and modern infrastructure. Arunachal Pradesh has seen significant success in individual sports like taekwondo, boxing, weightlifting, judo, and wushu.
