AIMIM President and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi has reached out to External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, urging immediate action to rescue 16 Indian nationals stranded at the Myanmar-Thailand border. The individuals, including three from Hyderabad, were deceived with job promises in Thailand but are now being exploited, forced to work long hours, and denied basic necessities like passports and medical aid.
Owaisi shared that a distress call from a captive individual revealed the dire situation, emphasizing the urgent need for intervention to secure the release of the stranded Indians. Mir Sajjad Ali, a Hyderabad resident currently held at the border, disclosed the plight of the victims, with two others hailing from Maula Ali and Banjara Hills.
Last year, India repatriated more than 1,500 nationals from Thailand, rescued from cyber fraud networks that ensnared them with false job offers. Among them were 11 individuals from Telangana, part of the 270 Indians rescued, who had sought refuge in Thailand after cybercrime crackdowns in Myanmar. Additionally, a group of 55 people from Andhra Pradesh, including residents of Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam, were also rescued from similar cybercrime hubs.
Upon their return to India, the repatriated individuals, deprived of resources and mobile phones in Myanmar, received support from the Andhra Pradesh government. Notably, the state government facilitated the safe return of 79 individuals rescued from the Myanmar cybercrime network to their respective homes. Earlier repatriations included 24 individuals from various regions of Andhra Pradesh, part of the Indian nationals brought back from Thailand.
