Legendary playback singer Asha Bhosle, aged 92, has been hospitalized at Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital following a cardiac arrest on Saturday. She is currently receiving treatment in the Emergency Medical Services unit. Dr. Pratit Samdani from Breach Candy Hospital confirmed the news, stating that Asha Bhosle suffered the cardiac arrest on April 10.
Asha Bhosle, known for her influential singing, began her playback singing career with the 1943 Marathi drama “Majha Bal” and later debuted in Bollywood with the song “Sawan Aya” from the film “Chunariya” in 1948. Her repertoire includes popular songs like “Chura Liya Hai Tumne Jo Dil Ko” and “Do Lafzon Ki Hai Dil Ki Kahani.”
Having sung in over 20 languages, Asha Bhosle has an extensive musical career with approximately 12,000 songs to her name as of 2006. She collaborated with renowned music composers such as RD Burman, Shankar-Jaikishan, and AR Rahman throughout her illustrious career.
Recipient of prestigious awards like the Dadasaheb Phalke Award and the Padma Vibhushan, Asha Bhosle has also been honored with 7 Filmfare Awards, primarily for ‘Best Female Playback Singer’, and a Lifetime Achievement Award. Apart from her singing career, she has dabbled in acting, appearing in the Marathi film “Mai” in 2013.
