Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced the state government’s ongoing efforts to invest in sports infrastructure, training facilities, and equipment support for young athletes. The focus is on nurturing sporting talent and creating opportunities for athletes to excel at national and international levels. The government is establishing High Performance Sports Training and Rehabilitation Centres in three cities to offer scientific coaching and injury management facilities for athletes.
CM Sarma highlighted the state’s commitment to promoting sports from local to global platforms through various projects aimed at enhancing sports infrastructure. The government is also distributing sports equipment to youth clubs across all Assembly constituencies to encourage grassroots participation and identify talented individuals from rural and urban areas. Additionally, infrastructure projects include the redevelopment of sports complexes and the construction of new stadiums to host larger sporting events.
Assam is expanding the Khanikar Stadium in Dibrugarh to enhance sporting facilities in Upper Assam and is establishing an Archery Academy in Sonari to nurture talent in the discipline. The Chief Minister reiterated the government’s focus on sports development as a crucial aspect of youth empowerment, emphasizing the importance of modern infrastructure, quality coaching, and improved access to sporting resources to groom a strong pool of athletes from the region.
