Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is heading to Davos for the World Economic Forum’s Annual Meeting from January 19 to 23. He will showcase Assam’s governance reforms, industrial growth strategy, and technology-led development plans to a global audience. Sarma will engage in over 17 high-level meetings and sign various agreements to boost investment and economic cooperation.
Sarma’s participation marks the first time an Assamese leader will attend the WEF Annual Meeting. Assam has been given the opportunity by the Government of India to represent the country at the forum, a first for the state. The Chief Minister’s presence is expected to bolster Assam’s investment profile and economic prospects following the Advantage Assam 2.0 Summit.
At the summit, Sarma will focus on inclusive growth, digital transformation, and sectoral advancements. He will also discuss topics like workforce development, tourism potential, and healthcare. The World Economic Forum, established in 1971, is a significant platform for global economic discussions, attracting participants from nearly fifty countries.
Assam’s participation at the WEF is anticipated to attract new investments, drive projects such as semiconductor initiatives, and create job opportunities for the state’s youth.
