Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma reiterated his government’s dedication to escalating the fight against narcotics, emphasizing the ongoing crackdown on drug abuse and illicit trafficking to protect the youth’s future. Recognizing the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, the Chief Minister highlighted the grave societal threat posed by drugs and emphasized the state’s consistent efforts to dismantle drug networks.
Sarma, in a social media post on platform X, emphasized the government’s unwavering commitment to shielding the younger generation from the adverse impacts of substance abuse, underscoring it as a top governmental priority. The Assam administration has launched a robust anti-drug campaign in recent years, with law enforcement agencies conducting regular operations statewide.
The geographical positioning of Assam, sharing borders with Bhutan and Bangladesh and serving as a gateway to the Northeast, exposes it to drug trafficking networks from the “Golden Triangle” region. In response, the government has adopted a zero-tolerance stance against narcotics, blending stringent enforcement with awareness programs and rehabilitation efforts. The International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, observed on June 26, aims to bolster global cooperation in creating a drug-free world.
