Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma revealed that an air show is expected to take place in Upper Assam on Saturday in conjunction with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s trip to the state. The air show is set to feature fighter jets like Rafale and Sukhoi, marking a significant event for the region. Prime Minister Modi will inaugurate a modern highway airstrip at Moran in Dibrugarh district during his visit.
The Chief Minister highlighted that Prime Minister Modi will land directly at the highway airstrip in Moran, a rare occurrence where a national highway strip is used for an official landing. Following the Moran event, the Prime Minister will head to Guwahati without visiting an airport, showcasing the operational capability of the newly developed highway airstrip.
The highway airstrip at Moran has been established to support emergency landings of military and civilian aircraft, enhancing rapid response capabilities in the area. This move is crucial for disaster management and national security, especially in the northeastern region. The air show, if held, will offer residents of Upper Assam a unique opportunity to witness advanced fighter aircraft in action.
Prime Minister Modi’s visit underscores the government’s commitment to enhancing connectivity, infrastructure, and strategic readiness in Assam and the Northeast. The state has been witnessing significant growth in highways, bridges, and logistics infrastructure, positioning itself as a key player in India’s Act East policy.
