Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma revealed plans for the Rs 15,431 crore expansion of the Baihata Chariali-Mission Chariali-Tezpur stretch of National Highway-15. This initiative aims to enhance connectivity in the state, ensuring faster, safer, and more efficient travel. The project is a significant move towards boosting Assam’s infrastructure development and improving access to economic opportunities in the region.

The expansion of the highway will focus on widening and upgrading the critical section of National Highway-15, connecting central and upper Assam. By reducing travel time, easing traffic congestion, and enhancing road safety, officials anticipate improved transportation for both goods and passengers. Additionally, the upgraded highway is set to enhance connectivity to key commercial centers, educational institutions, and tourist spots in the area.

This highway project is part of the broader efforts by the Central government to modernize the infrastructure in Northeast India. The region has witnessed substantial investments in various sectors like roads, bridges, railways, and airports in recent years. Recognizing the importance of enhanced transport infrastructure, the Assam government emphasizes its role in attracting investments, creating jobs, and fostering balanced regional development.

The Baihata Chariali-Mission Chariali-Tezpur corridor serves as a vital link connecting Guwahati with Sonitpur and several upper Assam districts. The upgraded highway is expected to facilitate smoother traffic flow and strengthen connectivity with neighboring Arunachal Pradesh. Chief Minister Sarma consistently underscores infrastructure development as a key priority, emphasizing that improved connectivity is crucial for driving economic growth, enhancing public services, and creating new opportunities for the people of Assam.
