Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma visited flood-affected regions in Golaghat district, overseeing rescue and relief efforts. He promised affected families prompt delivery of essential aid amidst the ongoing flood aftermath. Sarma inspected relief camps at Bhaskar Senior Basic School and Numaligarh Higher Secondary School, providing shelter to displaced families.
At the Kamarbandha camp, accommodating 178 flood victims, Sarma interacted with residents to understand their needs and instructed authorities to prioritize essential requirements. In Numaligarh, where 182 individuals, including many children, are housed, the Chief Minister engaged with the children to ensure their well-being.
Official reports indicate that the recent floods have impacted 25,791 people in Golaghat district. Sarma, addressing the press post-visit, acknowledged the extensive challenges posed by the floods, including agricultural losses, livestock impact, and disruptions to numerous families. He affirmed the government’s commitment to delivering sufficient relief and rehabilitation aid to all affected individuals.
Additionally, Sarma mentioned a conversation with Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who pledged support for Assam’s flood situation. Shah informed Sarma about an impending visit by an inter-ministerial central team to assess flood damages and determine necessary assistance from the Centre for relief and reconstruction efforts. The Assam government remains vigilant in monitoring flood conditions, enhancing relief operations, and collaborating with the Centre for further aid.
