Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma criticized the reported Congress-Raijor Dal understanding before the upcoming Assembly elections. Sarma dismissed the alliance’s chances in the state and announced a significant press conference on February 8 to expose a broader political connection involving Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi.
Sarma, speaking at a school building inauguration, mentioned that the press conference would reveal more than just previous allegations about Gaurav Gogoi’s alleged “Pakistan link.” He promised to disclose the entire network associated with it, emphasizing the political implications of the revelations.
Responding to the Congress-Raijor Dal tie-up reports, Sarma expressed skepticism about the Opposition’s prospects in Assam. He ridiculed Raijor Dal leader Akhil Gogoi, stating that even in 500 years, he wouldn’t be able to form a government in Assam.
The Chief Minister accused Gaurav Gogoi of collaborating with Akhil Gogoi and Assam Jatiya Parishad president Lurinjyoti Gogoi in anticipation of a joint political response post the February 8 press conference. Sarma suggested that these actions were merely attempts to shield themselves from potential BJP revelations.
Sarma warned the Opposition leaders that their political relevance would diminish after February 8 and advised them to secure any political benefits now. His statements have further fueled political tensions in Assam as the state approaches the Assembly elections, with February 8 emerging as a crucial date in the unfolding political scenario.
