Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed optimism about the BJP’s chances in the Barak Valley, anticipating a clear win in the upcoming Assembly elections. Sarma stated that the BJP is likely to secure at least 10 Assembly seats in the region, with a possibility of reaching 11. The Barak Valley, encompassing Cachar, Sribhumi, and Hailakandi districts, holds significant electoral weight with 13 Assembly constituencies.
The BJP and its allies have shown strength in the Barak Valley in previous elections and are now aiming to strengthen their position further. In a bid to ensure party unity, Sarma held a crucial meeting with three sitting MLAs who were not given tickets for the upcoming polls. The meeting focused on addressing concerns and rallying support for the party’s success despite the ticket denial.
Ahead of the elections, the BJP has strategically omitted several incumbent MLAs from the candidate list to counter anti-incumbency sentiments and introduce new faces. This move, involving the exclusion of 18 legislators, aims to revamp the party’s electoral strategy. Despite some internal discontent triggered by these decisions, the party leadership is actively working on damage control through direct engagement and dialogue.
Following the nomination process, the BJP plans to escalate its campaign activities in Assam, leveraging governance achievements, welfare initiatives, and organizational robustness to secure continued governance in the state.
