Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma responded strongly to Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi’s remarks on social media by questioning Gogoi’s international trips and raising concerns about national security. Sarma dismissed Gogoi’s accusations of land encroachment as politically motivated and emphasized the need for transparency and accountability. He challenged Gogoi to explain his visits to Pakistan and the changes in his visa conditions, offering to provide documentary evidence to the public.
Gogoi, in turn, criticized Sarma’s press conference as a failure and accused the Chief Minister of making baseless claims. He alleged that Sarma and his family had encroached upon a significant amount of land, a claim that Sarma refuted by stating that all their properties were legally acquired and declared. Sarma also raised questions about Gogoi’s visit to Pakistan in 2013, highlighting a period of digital silence and suggesting potential influence by Pakistani intelligence.
Sarma further alleged that Gogoi’s behavior changed after his visit to Pakistan, linking it to the MP’s subsequent activities in Parliament related to national security. The Chief Minister emphasized the importance of addressing these issues transparently for the people of Assam, emphasizing the need for factual accuracy over unfounded accusations.
