Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma mentioned that Congress leader Pawan Khera appeared before the Assam Police Crime Branch as per a Supreme Court order. Sarma stated that the investigation’s pace would rely on Khera’s cooperation during the process. He emphasized that if Khera continues to cooperate, the case could be concluded faster.
Sarma revealed that documents submitted by Khera before the Assembly elections were deemed “fake” by the Ministry of External Affairs. Investigators are anticipated to question Khera regarding the alleged circulation of these fake documents during the election period. The Chief Minister reiterated the government’s commitment to following legal procedures to swiftly conclude the matter.
Pawan Khera, a senior Congress leader, cooperated with the Crime Branch in Guwahati concerning a case filed by Riniki Bhuyan Sarma. Khera, who had received anticipatory bail from the Supreme Court, expressed confidence in the judicial system and pledged to cooperate with the investigation. The case originated from allegations made by Khera against Riniki Bhuyan Sarma, the Chief Minister’s wife, regarding foreign passports and financial interests abroad.
