Assam Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, filed his nomination from the Jalukbari Assembly constituency for the upcoming state elections. Accompanied by his family and BJP leaders, Sarma took out a roadshow covering a distance of around 5.6 km from Khanapara to the Kamrup (Metropolitan) Deputy Commissioner’s office in Hengrabari. At the office, amidst tight security, Sarma submitted his nomination papers, emphasizing his stronghold in the region.
Jalukbari, a key BJP stronghold, has been represented by Sarma for over two decades. Seeking a sixth consecutive term from the constituency, Sarma’s enduring political dominance is evident. Despite an initial defeat in 1996, Sarma made a strong comeback in 2001, steadily increasing his victory margins in subsequent elections.
Having switched to the BJP in 2015, Sarma has maintained a strong hold over Jalukbari, winning comfortably in the 2016 and 2021 Assembly elections. With a consistent electoral track record and strong voter connect, Jalukbari remains a safe seat for Sarma as he gears up for another electoral battle.
