Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma revealed that more than 7.27 lakh individuals in 25 districts of the state were impacted by flood-like situations following pre-monsoon showers. The floods, occurring between April 29 and July 21 this year, have affected 7,27,506 people, with relief efforts ongoing.
The Chief Minister shared that floods have hit 25 districts, including Goalpara, Cachar, Lakhimpur, Dibrugarh, and Jorhat. He assured affected families of government support in rehabilitation and livelihood restoration. The disaster has affected 74 revenue circles and 1,700 villages.
Currently, Assam has 95 operational relief camps, accommodating 18,574 displaced individuals. Additionally, 469 relief distribution centers have been set up to provide essential supplies to affected families. The floods have tragically claimed 31 lives this season, with the highest fatalities reported in Sivasagar.
The floods have caused significant damage to residential properties, with 401 houses completely destroyed and 1,848 partially damaged. Livestock has also suffered, with 185 animals reported dead or missing. The government, along with disaster response agencies, is actively engaged in relief distribution and rehabilitation efforts.
Assam’s Chief Minister visited a relief camp in Charaideo to assess the situation and interact with affected individuals. He emphasized the government’s commitment to supporting flood-affected families through relief, rehabilitation, and recovery efforts.
