Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has called upon legislators to develop their constituencies into self-sufficient economic units, aiming to reduce reliance on food imports and enhance local production of essentials like milk, fish, and agricultural goods. Sarma emphasized that achieving self-reliance is key to eradicating the “syndicate culture” in the state. He urged MLAs to lead campaigns at the constituency level to achieve self-sufficiency in crucial sectors such as dairy, fisheries, livestock, and agriculture.
Sarma highlighted the importance of every Assembly constituency aspiring to be an “Atmanirbhar Constituency,” producing essential commodities locally instead of depending on external sources. He encouraged the establishment of dairy cooperative societies, fish farming, and poultry initiatives to strengthen rural livelihoods and boost local production. Sarma set a target for Assam to significantly increase milk production, drawing inspiration from the success of dairy giant Amul.
The Chief Minister stressed the need for public cooperation in government projects, especially in cases requiring land acquisition. He emphasized the importance of fair compensation and active participation of landowners in the development process. Sarma outlined the next five years as crucial for Assam’s progress, emphasizing the state’s focus on accelerating development and expanding healthcare infrastructure. He affirmed the government’s commitment to establishing a medical college in every district as part of Assam’s long-term development strategy.
