Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed gratitude towards Eidgah committees and the Muslim community in the state for advocating against cow slaughter during Eid. Sarma highlighted that various Eidgah committees in Assam had previously urged people to refrain from cow sacrifice, and now members of the Muslim community were voluntarily supporting this initiative. He emphasized that the move towards cow protection in districts like Barpeta, Lakhimpur, Hojai, and Kamrup would enhance Assam’s cultural unity. Sarma also acknowledged the Dhubri Town Eidgah Committee’s call to respect Hindu sentiments and abide by the law by avoiding cow slaughter.
The Chief Minister encouraged Eid committees throughout Assam to ensure that the upcoming Eid celebrations are free from cow slaughter. This issue has sparked discussions in Assam, with the BJP-led government emphasizing communal harmony and strict adherence to cattle protection laws. Assam has stringent regulations under the Assam Cattle Preservation Act, 2021, governing the slaughter, sale, and transportation of cattle in the state.
