Assam Pradesh Congress Committee president and Lok Sabha MP Gaurav Gogoi criticized Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for dragging his minor children into a political controversy. Gogoi emphasized that political disputes should be confined to leaders and should never target children. He expressed dismay over the mention of his young children in public discourse, labeling such actions as unacceptable.
Gogoi vowed to confront any personal attacks aimed at him but asserted that he would not tolerate any targeting of his children, Congress workers, or ordinary citizens. He warned that he would pursue the issue relentlessly if such behavior persisted. Gogoi cautioned the Chief Minister against escalating personal matters and accused him of diminishing the decorum of political discussions.
Questioning the accuracy of the circulated claims, Gogoi alleged a deliberate spread of false information. He suggested that the Supreme Court should intervene in the matter, considering its seriousness. Gogoi issued a strong warning, stating that he would not hesitate to respond if provoked further. He highlighted that his wife is independent and capable of caring for their children, drawing a parallel with his upbringing by his mother.
Gogoi clarified that his press conference aimed to uphold media dignity and respect for the people of Assam, rather than for political theatrics. He condemned the act of involving children in political attacks, deeming it disgraceful for someone in the Chief Minister’s position. Gogoi reiterated his commitment to addressing issues concerning the people of Assam and emphasized letting the public make their judgments.
