Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced an investment exceeding Rs 4,700 crore in the Assam Resilient Rural Bridges Programme (ARRBP) to enhance rural connectivity and ensure year-round access in the state.
The initiative focuses on constructing climate-resilient infrastructure capable of withstanding floods and extreme weather conditions while enhancing connectivity in rural areas. The state plans to implement infrastructure projects worth Rs 4,706.29 crore, including the construction of 956 bridges, with 816 already allotted for execution.
The programme aims to improve transportation links in remote and flood-prone regions, addressing seasonal disruptions that hinder the movement of people, goods, and services. By enhancing access to essential facilities and boosting economic activities, these bridges are set to play a crucial role in rural Assam’s development.
The Assam government’s emphasis on infrastructure development, including roads, bridges, highways, airports, and waterways, underscores its commitment to enhancing connectivity and disaster preparedness. This initiative aligns with the broader vision of creating resilient infrastructure to drive economic growth and improve the quality of life in rural areas.
