Guwahati, Aug 17 (IANS) Assam has completed the Self Enumeration (SE) phase of Census 2027, with more than 11.64 lakh households submitting their details online before the exercise ended on August 16, officials said on Monday.

According to officials, Cachar, Sribhumi and Kokrajhar emerged as the three best‑performing districts in terms of participation in the self‑enumeration exercise.

Director of Census Operations, Assam, Biswajit Pegu announced the completion of the online phase at a press conference held at the Directorate of Census Operations.

He thanked citizens for their participation and cooperation during the self‑enumeration period.

The next stage of Census 2027, involving Houselisting and Housing Census, commenced across Assam on Monday and will continue until September 15.

During this phase, trained census enumerators will visit households door to door and collect the required information.

Pegu said the enumeration would follow the principle of “No Omission, No Duplication”, with safeguards to protect confidentiality.

He underlined that census information is protected under the law and is not admissible as evidence in a court of law under the Census Act, 1948.

State Nodal Officer for Census 2027 and Additional Secretary in Assam’s General Administration Department, Partha Pegu, was also present.

He appealed to residents to extend the same level of cooperation during the house‑to‑house phase, stressing that public participation is crucial for an accurate and complete database.

Officials said the ongoing exercise aims to ensure every eligible household is covered without omission or duplication, while maintaining confidentiality and integrity of census information. The house‑to‑house phase will continue until September 15.
