Assam Rifles took steps to enhance historical awareness and conserve heritage at the Khongjom War Memorial in Manipur’s Kakching district. In collaboration with the district administration, they assessed the memorial’s restoration needs and planned beautification efforts. The Historical Awareness Programme educated students about the Battle of Khongjom of 1891, a significant event in Manipur’s history symbolizing bravery and patriotism.
Assam Rifles engaged 114 students, including NCC cadets and students from local schools, in interactive sessions to emphasize the importance of preserving Manipuri warriors’ legacy and understanding the historical significance of the memorial. The initiative concluded with a Heritage Cleanliness Drive where Assam Rifles personnel, students, and NCC cadets cleaned the memorial complex, pathways, and surrounding areas.
Senior Assam Rifles officials stressed the significance of preserving heritage sites and understanding the country’s history to the participants. They urged the younger generation to actively participate in safeguarding historical landmarks and cultural heritage. Local residents and visitors appreciated the initiative, recognizing its impact on enhancing the memorial’s beauty and instilling civic responsibility and historical consciousness among the youth.
Assam Rifles’ efforts underscore their commitment to community engagement, heritage preservation, and raising awareness about Manipur’s historical legacy. They aim to encourage collective endeavors in protecting and maintaining cultural landmarks for future generations.
