Assam Transport Minister Charam Boro has encouraged people to reduce the use of private vehicles and utilize public transport more due to the increasing costs of petrol and diesel. Boro, who recently assumed office, emphasized the government’s efforts to enhance public transport services in the state to alleviate commuter pressure. He highlighted the importance of collective action in minimizing fuel consumption by choosing buses and trains over personal vehicles whenever feasible.
The minister acknowledged the challenges posed by the escalating number of vehicles on city roads, expressing concerns about traffic congestion. Boro assured that measures would be implemented to prevent commuters from facing severe traffic jams caused by the surge in buses and private vehicles. He also mentioned initiatives such as reducing unnecessary official travel and conducting departmental meetings online to conserve fuel and decrease travel.
Boro disclosed plans to conduct detailed discussions with department officials and seek guidance from Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on addressing transportation issues. He emphasized the significance of public cooperation in reducing private vehicle usage during times of high fuel prices. The minister’s focus remains on gradually reviewing and enhancing the state’s transport infrastructure and policies to better serve the public.
