Assam has been honored with three prestigious awards at the National Panchayat Awards 2025, showcasing the state’s commitment to grassroots governance and rural development led by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. The awards, presented under the Panchayat Sustainable Development framework by the Union Ministry of Panchayati Raj, recognize Assam’s outstanding performance in various categories.
One of the accolades, the Nanaji Deshmukh Sarvottam Panchayat Satat Vikas Puraskar 2025, worth Rs 1.50 crore, was secured by New Nopam Gaon Panchayat in Sonitpur district for its exceptional rural governance, welfare scheme implementation, and sustainable development efforts. This award acknowledges the panchayat’s initiatives in enhancing local infrastructure, sanitation, public engagement, and livelihood opportunities in rural areas.
Additionally, Assam clinched the Deen Dayal Upadhyay Panchayat Sustained Vikas Puraskar 2025, valued at Rs 75 lakh, in the “Clean and Green Panchayat” category. Jummurmur Gaon Panchayat in Nagaon district was recognized for its commendable work in cleanliness drives, waste management, environmental conservation, and green development measures. Another notable achievement was by Hugrijan Gaon Panchayat in Dibrugarh district, honored in the “Self-reliant Infrastructure” category for its sustainable rural infrastructure and economic empowerment initiatives through community involvement and development-oriented planning.
The annual awards aim to acknowledge outstanding performance by panchayats nationwide in achieving Sustainable Development Goals through effective local governance. Assam’s success in this year’s awards underscores the state government’s persistent efforts in promoting decentralized administration, rural empowerment, and inclusive progress. The state has prioritized strengthening gram panchayats through enhanced financial support, digital governance, sanitation programs, and rural infrastructure development, fostering a culture of innovation and people-centric development practices.
