Assam experienced a remarkable surge in public enthusiasm over the past two days with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the state marking significant milestones in its development journey. The inauguration of the new terminal building at Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport and the foundation laying ceremony of the Namrup ammonia-urea fertiliser plant were key events during the visit.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma described the visit as historic, noting that lakhs of people across the state felt a strong “Modi wave” as the Prime Minister unveiled crucial infrastructure and industrial projects aimed at propelling Assam’s growth. These initiatives underscore the Centre’s continued focus on enhancing connectivity and bolstering industrial capacity in the Northeast.
The newly opened LGBI airport terminal, known as India’s first nature-themed terminal, is expected to significantly boost passenger handling capacity and enhance air connectivity in the region. This development is poised to have a positive impact on tourism, trade, and investment, positioning Guwahati as a pivotal aviation hub for eastern India and the Northeast.
Simultaneously, the inauguration of the Rs 10,600 crore ammonia-urea complex at Namrup, with the Prime Minister laying the foundation stone, is anticipated to play a vital role in meeting the fertiliser demands of Assam and neighboring states. The project aims to reduce reliance on imports, create job opportunities, and fortify the state’s industrial landscape.
Chief Minister Sarma highlighted the overwhelming public response during the Prime Minister’s engagements, reflecting the increasing confidence of the people in the ongoing development endeavors. He emphasized that Assam’s growth trajectory is evolving, driven by improved infrastructure, industrial expansion, and unwavering support from the Centre.
Characterizing these developments as integral to Assam’s growth narrative, the Chief Minister emphasized that the state is steadily progressing towards a future defined by peace, stability, and economic prospects.
