Australia wrapped up their ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 journey on a high note by defeating Oman convincingly with a nine-wicket victory in a Group B match at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Kandy. Skipper Mitchell Marsh’s explosive 64 off 33 balls and Travis Head’s quick 32 off 19 deliveries led Australia to a comfortable win in the 40th match.
Marsh’s aggressive batting performance showcased Australia’s dominance, particularly their strong bowling attack highlighted by Adam Zampa’s standout performance. Despite the comprehensive victory, this win did not alter Australia’s overall standing in the tournament. The game exhibited Australia’s superiority in all aspects, especially in bowling, against Oman.
Opting to bowl first, Australia displayed a commanding performance right from the start, with Xavier Bartlett striking early by dismissing Aamir Kaleem off the first delivery. Zampa’s exceptional bowling in the middle overs further dismantled Oman’s batting lineup, with him claiming crucial wickets. Oman’s top four batsmen were all bowled out, a first in T20 World Cup history, leading to a chaotic innings for Oman.
In a remarkable display of bowling prowess, Zampa finished with impressive figures of 4-21, ably supported by Glenn Maxwell (2-13) and Bartlett (2-27). Marcus Stoinis and Ellis also contributed with a wicket each as Oman was bundled out for 104 runs in 16.2 overs.
