Beth Mooney’s impressive 74 and Ashleigh Gardner’s quick 58 helped Australia reach 219/6 against the Netherlands in the Women’s T20 World Cup, matching the highest total in the tournament’s history.
Australia, batting first, started strongly with Mooney and Georgia Voll collecting boundaries early on. Despite losing Voll and Ellyse Perry cheaply, Australia finished the powerplay at 61/2.
Gardner, returning to the XI, played aggressively, finding boundaries regularly. Mooney anchored the innings and reached her half-century in just 30 balls, with Gardner providing explosive support.
Mooney retired hurt after a brilliant 74, and Gardner’s innings ended at 58. Georgia Wareham then took charge, scoring a quick 41 off 18 balls, as Australia finished at 219/6, their highest T20 World Cup score.
The total equaled the tournament record set by England earlier. Iris Zwilling and Caroline de Lange stood out for the Netherlands with three and two wickets respectively, but Australia’s strong batting display dominated the match.
