As the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 approaches, Australian player Phoebe Litchfield is set to play a crucial role in her team’s pursuit of a seventh championship. Renowned for her dynamic batting style and innovative switch hits, the 23-year-old sees this tournament as a chance to enhance her global reputation. Litchfield has excelled in both domestic and international cricket, notably scoring 119 runs against India in the previous Women’s Cricket World Cup semifinals. Despite her success, she aims to improve her consistency in T20Is.
“I have been seeking advice from experienced players like Moon (Beth Mooney), Midge (Alyssa Healy), and Pez (Ellyse Perry) on how to approach T20 cricket. In the last T20 World Cup, I batted lower down the order, and starting in T20Is can be challenging,” Litchfield shared with ICC Digital. She is focused on learning new strategies and mastering the art of constructing innings in the T20 format, which differs from ODIs. Litchfield expresses excitement for the upcoming challenge and is eager to adapt and grow.
While Litchfield prefers opening in T20Is, the current form of Mooney and Voll places her at No.3 in the batting order. Despite her initial preference, she enjoys the challenge of batting at No.3, acknowledging the trust placed in her by coach Shelley Nitschke. Litchfield values the freedom this position offers, with strong batters like Voll, Mooney, and Perry supporting her. She appreciates the team’s deep batting lineup, enabling her to play her natural game and contribute positively to the team’s performance.
