Ayush Shetty continued his impressive performance at the Badminton Asia Championships by defeating Chin Yu Jen of Taipie in straight games, securing a spot in the quarterfinals. The US Open 2025 champion dominated the match, clinching a 21-16, 21-12 victory in just 41 minutes. In his earlier match, Ayush stunned world No. 7 Li Shi Feng of China with a 21-13, 21-16 win and is now set to face third seed Jonatan Christie of Indonesia in the quarterfinals.
Meanwhile, two-time Olympic medalist PV Sindhu and former world championship medalist H. S. Prannoy faced defeats in their second-round matches, ending their campaigns. Prannoy, after a strong start with a win over Nguyen Hai Dang, succumbed to a 12-21, 19-21 loss against world No. 17 Weng Hong Yang of Hong Kong. Sindhu also suffered a straight-game loss to Chinese player Wang Zhi Yi, the two-time Asian Champions and second seed, following her victory against Wong Ling Ching of Malaysia.
India’s mixed doubles pair, Tanisha Crasto and Dhruv Kapila, faced disappointment with a 13-21, 14-21 loss to the fourth-seed duo of Toh Ee Wei and Chang Ten Jie. In other matches, Unnati Hooda, who upset world No. 11 Supanida Katethong in the opening round, is set to play against world No. 9 Japanese Tomoka Miyazaki. Additionally, in the women’s doubles category, Priya Konjengbam and Shruti Mishra will compete against the fifth-seed Japanese duo of Yuki Fukushima and Mayu Matsumoto for a place in the quarterfinals.
