Tara Chand, President of Baloch American Congress, criticized Pakistan’s Defence Minister, Khawaja Asif, for calling enforced disappearances in Balochistan a fraud. Chand labeled Asif’s statement as “shameless, cruel, and deeply offensive.” He emphasized that the pain of families with missing members is well-known in Balochistan, where many have been abducted by Pakistani soldiers for years.
Chand highlighted the suffering endured by families of the disappeared in Balochistan, stating that they have lived like prisoners in their own land, carrying wounds that never heal. He condemned Asif’s denial of their suffering, describing it as irresponsible, inhumane, and immoral. Meanwhile, the Baloch National Movement’s Human Rights Department reported another extrajudicial killing of a Baloch civilian by Pakistani forces in Panjgur district.
Paank’s annual human rights report, “A Year of Repression: Balochistan 2025,” documented numerous human rights violations in the province, including enforced disappearances and extrajudicial killings. The report also highlighted repeated aerial attacks on civilian areas, alleging that Pakistani authorities misuse legal and administrative measures to suppress civic movements and silence victims’ families and witnesses.
