Human rights organization Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) has highlighted that bail orders issued by various courts in Balochistan emphasize the alleged baseless and politically motivated nature of cases against its leaders by Pakistani authorities. BYC’s chief organizer, Mahrang Baloch, along with other leaders like Beebarg Baloch, Shahji Baloch, Gulzadi Baloch, and Beebow Baloch, have reportedly been detained unlawfully for ten months. Initially held under the Maintenance of Public Order (3-MPO) for three months, their detention was extended through what BYC terms as politically motivated FIRs.
The BYC leaders have faced prolonged incarceration due to repeated remands, delays in investigation reports, and procedural obstacles, despite the cases being bailable. Recent developments include bail granted by various courts, such as the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Kalat and City Court in Quetta, in multiple FIRs. The courts have noted the lack of substantive grounds in the FIRs and acknowledged the leaders’ right to freedom of expression.
Allegations against BYC leadership are said to be rooted in political hostility rather than violence or criminal activities. The organization has been vocal against enforced disappearances, human rights violations, and systemic injustices in Balochistan. BYC has called for international human rights organizations to advocate for the release of its leaders and ensure the protection of human rights defenders in the region.
