The Balochistan Employees’ Grand Alliance has declared an indefinite closure of government offices, schools, and public departments in Balochistan, Pakistan. Starting on June 19 in Quetta, a hunger strike until death is set to begin, with the movement escalating if their demands are not addressed. The decision follows clashes between alliance members and law enforcement, leading to arrests of several leaders.
The alliance had planned a protest march to the Balochistan Assembly during the budget session but faced heavy police and Frontier Corps presence, hindering their movement. Expressing discontent over what they termed a “violent crackdown” on peaceful demonstrators, the alliance vows to intensify their protest actions. Police intervention, including tear gas, was reported as government employees attempted to rally against the provincial budget near Chaman Phatak.
Demanding a 35% disparity reduction allowance and a previously pledged 25% salary increase, the alliance rejected the seven percent salary raise proposed by the provincial government in the budget. Allegations of reduced pension, gratuity, and leave encashment benefits were raised by the All Government Employees Grand Alliance (AGEGA) in Punjab, citing financial challenges due to inflation. AGEGA leaders urged for increased allowances, withdrawal of pension reforms, and pay scale revisions in the Federal Budget 2026-27.
