Bandi Bhageerath’s counsel has disputed the police’s assertion that he was arrested in a POCSO case, stating that he voluntarily surrendered. Despite being sent to judicial custody for 14 days, his counsel emphasized that Bhageerath cooperated with the investigation after surrendering. The counsel clarified that the police’s portrayal of the situation as an arrest is misleading.
The Cyberabad Police reported that Bhageerath was arrested on Saturday night and presented before a magistrate for judicial custody. The case against Bhageerath was initiated based on a complaint by a victim girl, leading to his arrest. The police altered the section of law based on the victim’s statement, adding relevant sections of the POCSO Act.
Bandi Sanjay, Union Minister of State for Home Affairs and Bhageerath’s father, stated that his son voluntarily appeared before the police for questioning. Bhageerath’s surrender followed the Telangana High Court’s denial of interim protection from arrest in the case. The allegations against Bhageerath involve a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
