The killing of anti-India student leader, Osman Hadi, has sparked controversy in Bangladesh. Following the murder, Bangladesh accused India of harboring the suspects without conducting a proper investigation. The Bangladesh foreign ministry summoned the Indian High Commissioner, seeking cooperation to prevent the alleged killers from fleeing to India.
Syeda Rizwana Hasan from the Information Ministry stated that India assured Dhaka of extraditing the suspects if found in India. Despite Indian authorities denying the presence of the suspects, Bangladesh’s reactions seemed deliberate and aimed at inciting anti-India sentiments. Violent protests erupted in various cities, accompanied by demands for the extradition of Hadi’s killers.
The situation escalated with coordinated protests and anti-India rhetoric spreading rapidly. The protests, fueled by false claims and deepfake videos, targeted the Indian High Commission and escalated tensions. Amid the chaos, a rise in attacks on Hindus was observed, further exacerbating the volatile atmosphere.
The narrative took a false turn with misleading videos circulating, falsely implicating individuals in the murder. The orchestrated drama, allegedly orchestrated by ISI-backed elements, aimed to create widespread anti-India sentiment in Bangladesh. The ISI’s involvement was suspected in manipulating the situation to blame India for internal issues and potentially influence upcoming elections.
