Bangladesh has included Sarmin Sultana in their squad for the upcoming women’s T20I series against Sri Lanka, replacing Fargana Hoque in the 15-member group. The decision follows the conclusion of the ODI series in Rajshahi, where Sri Lanka won 2-1, prompting Bangladesh to address batting concerns after an inconsistent performance in the 50-over format.
Sarmin, who is yet to debut in T20Is, returned to the ODI side earlier this year but had a modest performance with 42 runs in three matches. Despite this, selectors have chosen to reinforce the top order as they prepare for the Women’s T20 World Cup.
The batting lineup is likely to rely on captain Nigar Sultana, Sobhana Mostary, and Sharmin Akter, who displayed promising form in the ODI series. Meanwhile, Fargana Hoque, who only played one match and scored 11 runs, has been omitted from the squad.
Bangladesh’s bowling unit seems settled, with Marufa Akter leading the pace attack and Fariha Trisna playing a crucial role, especially on responsive surfaces in Sylhet. The spin department will be managed by vice-captain Nahida Akter, Rabeya Khan, Sultana Khatun, and Fahima Khatun, aiming for improved performances after struggling in ODIs.
The upcoming T20I series holds significance as it marks Bangladesh’s final preparation before the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in England, starting June 12. The team had secured qualification by winning all seven matches in the qualifying event held in Nepal.
