Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) chief Animul Islam will head to Colombo on February 15 to witness the intense T20 World Cup 2026 showdown between rivals India and Pakistan at the R. Premadasa Stadium. Representatives from major Asian teams, including India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and Sri Lanka, will gather for discussions during the match. Islam mentioned that the ICC’s invitation aims to unite the key stakeholders from these five Asian countries.
The decision follows a rift between the BCCI and BCB over Mustafizur Rahman’s release from the Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL. BCB’s request to move matches from India to Sri Lanka was denied by the ICC, resulting in Scotland replacing Bangladesh in the tournament. However, positive discussions ensued between the ICC and BCB after the PCB supported Bangladesh’s exclusion by boycotting the India match. Consequently, no action will be taken against Bangladesh for not adhering to the T20 World Cup schedule, with Pakistan agreeing to play against India.
Additionally, Bangladesh is set to host an ICC event between 2028 and 2031, likely the ICC Men’s Under-19 World Cup in 2028. Islam emphasized the need for a detailed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to ensure the commitments are met. He highlighted the importance of a comprehensive agreement, similar to the one prepared during the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) Annual General Meeting in Dhaka, to prevent any deviations from the contract.
