Bangladesh High Commissioner to India, Md. Riaz Hamidullah, highlighted the deep-rooted and historical ties between India and Bangladesh during the ‘Destination Tripura Business Conclave 2026’ in Agartala. He described the relationship as organic and natural, extending beyond mere trade and economic connections. Stressing the multi-sectoral nature of the bilateral relationship, Hamidullah emphasized the shared history, geography, and cultural affinity between the two countries.
The High Commissioner expressed optimism about the limitless scope of cooperation between India and Bangladesh, stating that both nations have vast opportunities to enhance collaboration across various sectors. He underlined the importance of ongoing dialogue and diplomatic channels to address mutual interests, especially in light of the evolving political landscape in Bangladesh under Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s leadership.
Emphasizing the significance of cross-border social and cultural ties, Hamidullah noted the enduring interactions between the people of Bangladesh’s eastern regions and those residing in northeastern and eastern states of India. He proposed organizing a Bangladesh film festival in Tripura to foster greater cultural engagement and strengthen the historic bonds between the two nations.
During the conclave, senior diplomats from several countries, including South Africa, Chile, and Timor-Leste, participated alongside industry leaders and investors. The event witnessed the signing of multiple Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) for investments in sectors like tourism, agarwood, rubber, and food processing. The business conclave aimed to attract investments and explore business opportunities in Tripura, showcasing the state’s economic potential and growth prospects.
