Bangladesh’s women’s cricket team began their ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 campaign with a victory against the Netherlands at Edgbaston. Opener Juairiya Ferdous played a crucial role by scoring a half-century to lead Bangladesh to a six-wicket win.
Ferdous, along with her opening partner Dilara Akter, provided a solid start for Bangladesh, reaching 47 without loss at the end of the powerplay. Ferdous’s aggressive batting style helped Bangladesh maintain a strong position in the match.
Despite a brief collapse in the middle overs, Sharmin Akhter and Shorna Akter’s partnership of 56 runs for the fifth wicket ensured Bangladesh comfortably chased down the target of 140, finishing at 141/4 in 19.1 overs.
Earlier, the Netherlands, after opting to bat first, struggled to build partnerships as Bangladesh’s bowlers kept the pressure on. Captain Babette de Leede’s half-century was a notable contribution, but the Netherlands finished at 139/8 in their 20 overs.
